December rides

‘Tis the season to banish cold and darkness and ride, ride, and be merry!

Sunday 1 December
The BARA Ride

Riding to the Museum of London, Docklands. We will be traveling to the Isle of Dogs via the back roads of our patch of the East which is about 7 miles and should take about 45 mins. The Museum has a cafe and various eateries around for a lunch stop before our return via the latest part of the Olympic Park to open. If there is interest we can stop at a Bike Jumble Sale at the ViewTube by Pudding Mill Lane Station on the way back. (plus promised tea and cakes wanstead park temple if we make it before 2)

The Museum is next to West India Quay DLR station if anyone would like to join us there or take a short cut home.
This is one of the regular BARA first-Sunday-of-the-month rides: meet outside Carlton House in Aylmer Road, off Leytonstone High Street (E11 3AD) to leave at 10am. If you have questions, call Dwight on 07973 131429.
Every Saturday: 7, 14, 21, 28 December
North Star Vieux Velo Road Ride
For those with a penchant / stamina / bike for faster longer rides, the North Star Vieux Velo club meet every Saturday at 9am close to the corner of Browning Road and Bushwood, off Bush Road in Leytonstone, and try to leave London asap – most Saturdays the only way is Essex. Named after their local pub, les Vieux are inclusive and anyone is welcome to ride – even youngsters.

Sunday 8 December
Walthamstow Family Bike Ride

Our aim is for a relaxed and enjoyable afternoon travelling by bicycle and exploring the nooks and crannies in and around our borough (Waltham Forest). Frisbees sometimes materialise when we hit a suitable open space.

Our pace is easy, and the maximum distance we do is 15 miles there and back. We will do our best to tailor our route to the abilities of those who turn up, so the distance we cover might be considerably shorter.

We aim to stop off at a cafe at about half time, but we recommend you bring a snack and some water (in case our plans are thwarted); plus of course a bicycle, and any children you can round up.  In the winter months, please remember your lights.

Meet at 1pm at the Orford Road/Church Lane junction, E17 9RW, next to the old postbox opposite the Ancient House … see the map.

Sunday 22 December
WFCycling Monthly ride

Meet at 10.15 outside Walthamstow Library / Farmers’ Market. The Market opens at 10am so there is just enough time for a hot cuppa or your weekly groceries. We will ride into Central London, lunch at the only Chinese restaurant in London to offer traditional dim sum trolleys, see Christmas lights in Oxford Street, and return via the new Royal College Street segregated cycleway.

Christmas Day, Wednesday 25 December
Nic and Bridget’s Goose Hunt Ride

Join us for the ultimate ghost town ride around empty streets of London – and earn yourself the clean conscience for the subsequent Christmas gluttony! Leaving promtply from outside Walthamstow Library at 10am.
