The warm sun is just begging me to quit staring at the screen and get on the bike, and I am sure you feel the urge too. Well, there’s plenty opportunity to ride for fun this month, starting with a daffodil ride!
Sunday 6 April
The E11 Daffodil Ride
The Tony Fincham Classic Daffodil Ride is back, this time in Leytonstone: meet outside Carlton House in Aylmer Road, off Leytonstone High Street (E11 3AD) to leave at 10am. If you have questions, call Dwight on 07973 131429.
Sunday 6 April
The Sunday Cycle
Meet outside The Mill in Coppermill Lane at 11am. Return by 1pm. If you have questions, email Katja on firstname.lastname@example.org. This is the ride’s first edition, do turn up and give us another regular ride!
Sunday 13 April
Walthamstow Family Bike Ride
Our aim is for a relaxed and enjoyable afternoon travelling by bicycle and exploring the nooks and crannies in and around our borough (Waltham Forest). Frisbees sometimes materialise when we hit a suitable open space.
Our pace is easy, and the maximum distance we do is 15 miles there and back. We will do our best to tailor our route to the abilities of those who turn up, so the distance we cover might be considerably shorter.
We aim to stop off at a cafe at about half time, but we recommend you bring a snack and some water (in case our plans are thwarted); plus of course a bicycle, and any children you can round up. In the winter months, please remember your lights.
Meet at 1pm at the Orford Road/Church Lane junction, E17 9RW, next to the old postbox opposite the Ancient House … see the map.
Sunday 27 April
WFCycling Monthly ride
Meet at 10.15 outside Walthamstow Library / Farmers’ Market. The Market opens at 10am so there is just enough time for a hot cuppa or your weekly groceries. Route yet to be finalised (ideas / emerging ride leaders welcome!). We are usually back by 3-4pm.
Sunday 4 May
The E11 Ride
Meet outside Carlton House in Aylmer Road, off Leytonstone High Street (E11 3AD) to leave at 10am. If you have questions, call Dwight on 07973 131429.
The May Weekend 3-5 May
Sur les Traces de Napoleon – road ride to Boulogne
North Star Velo Road Ride
For those with a penchant / stamina / bike for faster longer rides, the North Star Velo club meet every Saturday at 9am close to the corner of Browning Road and Bushwood, off Bush Road in Leytonstone, and try to leave London asap – most Saturdays the only way is Essex, but they have recently ridden to Maidstone, will be riding in the Peak District in March, and in May around Boulogne in France, and even further.
Lea Valley Cycling Club Runs
Another one for bar-raising bar-droppers, Lea Valley Cycling Club ride on Sundays from Walthamstow Town Hall in Forest Road E17 and often split at High Beech into faster / longer and slower / shorter rides to cater to all abilities.
Saturday 9 August 2014 – FreeCycle. Enjoy traffic-free central London for a day! Well, crummy bits of it… It’s ridiculously inadequate, but still a thrilling experience. We’ll be riding from Walthamstow (and possibly other locations in Waltham Forest) so join us to get to the car-free circuit safely.
