Ahead Charity Ride
Ahead, our local charity in support of various projects in Ethiopia, is organising a fundraising event which includes a ride. Ahead’s mastermind Elfneh Bariso is a good friend and supporter of WF Cycling. Last time we were involved with Ahead’s ride it was great fun so do come along and help raise money for schools, colleges, girls’ hostels, and other important projects!
Epping Forest – consultation closes 4th October
If you ride in Epping Forest or want to in the future make sure you respond before it closes! The outcome will determine the direction for the next decade and whether they continue to resist cycling, start banning cycling or embrace it and make proper provision. The consultation is long and you need to sign up, but you can skip straight to section 1.6.A.2 where you can rate the options on the table for cycling, and section 1.9: Promoting public transport access to Epping Forest – which has some good ideas worth supporting!

Cycling training for van / LGV drivers
OK, if you’re reading this you probably ride a bike already… but spread the word: there is still room at the October Driver CPC Training provided by Cycle Confident and Waltham Forest Council at the Low Hall depot in Leyton! Sunday 18 October
Take the Peaceful Route with Nic
Meet from about 10.30 for an 11 o’clock start outside Walthamstow Library / Farmers’ Market.
To celebrate Samhain, the old pagan festival to mark the end of summer and the onset of the winter months, Nic will be doing a special bike ride. We’ll start by collecting acorns and conkers from the forest, then take a quite route ride into town, taking in as many parks as possible and feeding the local squirrels and ravens with our harvest.
It is not well known that both acorns and conkers only sprout after they have been eaten, as they need to germinate in a supply of fertiliser, so we’ll be able to see how successful we’ve been next spring, when (hopefully) there’ll be some new oak and horse chestnut saplings growing.
Sunday 25 October
